Below are just a very few of the many resources available to older adults both locally and nationally:

Virginia Senior Navigator – non-profit, agency/website provides helpful, free health and aging information to seniors, caregivers, and people with disabilities

Medicare.gov all things Medicare

Veterans Affairs – all things VA! There’s a lot of bogus information out there on web about VA benefits. Get the real deal.

Nursing Home Compare system. Compare nursing facilities side by side based on CMS/Medicare/Medicaid inspection data! Search by geographic area (zipcode or city etc.)

Jefferson Area Board for Aging (JABA) – many local services for seniors.

Charlottesville Senior Center – community center for elders. Recreational, educational, entertainment and other programs – including meals.

 

Waynesboro Senior Center – community center for elders. Recreational, educational, entertainment and other programs including meals.

Charlottesville Department of Social Services (DSS)– for Medicaid and other social services including food assistance and Adult Protective Services (APS) – report abuse, neglect or exploitation (physical, emotional and or financial to APS – you can do so anonymously!)NOTE: Each Virginia County and some municipalities have a Department of Social Services and APS – Contact the one in your area to report abuse or get assistance.
